British actor Jonathan Bailey, known for his breakout roles in Bridgerton and Wicked, has been named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2025.
The announcement was made Monday night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where Bailey was revealed as the latest celebrity to hold the title, taking over from actor John Krasinski, the 2024 honoree.
“It’s a huge honor,” Bailey, 37, told People. “Obviously, I’m incredibly flattered. And it’s completely absurd.”
Bailey captivated audiences with his portrayal of Prince Fiyero in the 2024 film adaptation of Wicked and earned widespread recognition for his performance as Lord Anthony Bridgerton in Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton.He also received a 2024 Emmy nomination for his role in Showtime’s Fellow Travelers and recently starred in Jurassic World Rebirth, released in July.
Appearing on Fallon’s show, Bailey described the title as an “honor of a lifetime,” joking that he was thrilled People had chosen “someone who can really cherish the value of a sexy man.”
Bailey’s love for acting began early. He told People that he discovered his passion for performance at age five when his grandmother took him to see a stage production of Oliver!. By age seven, he was performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and he has since built a decorated stage career, including a recent role in Richard II in London.
In addition to his screen and stage success, Bailey has been an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. He founded The Shameless Fund, an initiative supporting LGBTQ+ organizations, and has emphasized the importance of visibility and support.
“I know the LGBT sector is under immense threat at the moment,” he said. “It’s been amazing to meet people who have the expertise and see potential that I could have only dreamed of.”
Since People first awarded the title to Mel Gibson in 1985, past honorees have included Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, John Legend, and Patrick Dempsey.
Bailey will appear on the cover of People’s special issue, set for release on Friday. He revealed that while he was sworn to secrecy, he did share the news with one confidant — his dog, Benson, who also appears in the magazine.
