JAMB Flags 2,658 Admissions as Illegal

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has identified 2,658 admissions conducted during the 2024/2025 academic session as illegal. A total of 17 universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education were involved in these irregularities, according to an institutional analysis conducted by the board.

The affected institutions include:
– *Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University*: 1,847 cases
– *Osun State University*: 492 cases
– *Abubakar Tafari Ali Polytechnic*: 148 cases
– *Federal College of Animal and Health Production*: 66 cases
– *University of Calabar*: 28 cases
– *College of Education, Oro*: 12 cases
– *Michael and Cecilia Ibru University*: 12 cases
– *Redeemer’s University*: 5 cases
– *Pan-Atlantic University*: 5 cases
– *Nigerian Army College of Education*: 2 cases
– *Kwara State Polytechnic*: 1 case
– *Best Solution Polytechnic*: 1 case

JAMB considers admissions conducted outside its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) as illegal. The board has repeatedly warned institutions and candidates about the dangers of issuing and accepting admissions outside CAPS.

According to JAMB, CAPS was introduced in 2017 to ensure transparency, fairness, and merit-based admissions. The system allows candidates to track admission offers, accept or reject admissions, and verify their statuses.

*Consequences of Illegal Admissions*

Students who accept admissions outside CAPS risk ineligibility for the mandatory National Youth Service Scheme.

Institutions involved in illegal admission racketeering may face severe sanctions, including withdrawal of assets and punishment of officials, according to the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa ¹.
