The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has voiced his dissatisfaction over the recent clash between some officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osogbo, Osun State. Egbetokun has tasked the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) overseeing Zone 11 in Osogbo to carry out a thorough and discreet investigation to uncover the cause of the altercation.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP labeled the incident as unprofessional, calling it a display of disunity. Egbetokun emphasized that such actions undermine the integrity and unity expected among law enforcement agencies.
“The Inspector-General of Police expresses displeasure at the act of unprofessionalism and public display of division and has ordered the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Osogbo, to conduct a discreet investigation into the root cause of the confrontation,” the statement read.
In a recent address, Egbetokun had underscored the critical importance of teamwork and cooperation among security forces. Referencing an October 15 press release titled “IGP Holds Strategic Conference with Senior Police Officers, Emphasises Professionalism and Camaraderie,” he highlighted the importance of “esprit de corps”—the shared purpose and respect required among colleagues in different agencies to ensure effective duty execution and uphold the law.
The IGP also urged calm among the public, assuring that under his leadership, the NPF remains committed to working closely with other security agencies to maintain a safe and stable environment across Nigeria.
