My dad was named Ray. Full-blood wagon-burner. Tough man, bad man, survived off bareknuckle brawls. That was his life, and for a while, it worked. He died the other day without a will, and now people are buzzing, hoping something trickles down. It won’t. He wouldn’t care.

But anyway, rewind to 1993. He was walking me to the bus stop one morning. Out of nowhere comes this kid yelling:

“HEY GUYS! I’M SOME GUY! DO YOU LIKE VIDEO GAMES BECAUSE I SURE DO! SHOULD I WALK WITH YOU TO SCHOOL? I GUESS I SHOULD!”

That was u/lcgamer23. And somehow, that loud, awkward hello turned into a 30+ year friendship. I’ll die for him. Love you, Lancey.

We worked at the same restaurant. Honestly, I didn’t like her at first — thought she was a know-it-all. Then one day she mentioned she was a rock climber, and we decided to hit the gym together.

Outside of work, we just clicked. During COVID we spent almost every day together — hiking, climbing, cooking, playing cards. We even moved across the country together and lived together for 3 years. She’s best friends with my fiancé now too. Couldn’t have asked for a better outcome.
