House of Reps Member Alex Ikwechegh Set for Arraignment Over Assault of Bolt Driver in Abuja

An Abuja-based Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, has filed charges against Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, a House of Representatives member from Abia State, following an alleged assault incident that went viral on social media. In the footage, Ikwechegh was seen slapping and verbally abusing Abuwatseya over a delivery dispute.

Abuwatseya’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed that the case is set to be heard at Kuje Magistrate Court. “We are on our way to Kuje for the arraignment of the Honourable member, who assaulted our client, Mr. Stephen,” Adeyanju stated, inviting media to attend the proceedings scheduled for 12 pm.

Earlier, the Nigeria Police Force announced an “impartial” investigation into the incident. Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the commitment to uphold justice, stating, “The Nigeria Police Force has commenced an impartial investigation into the matter to ensure justice is served.”

Ikwechegh, representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency, allegedly slapped Abuwatseya after the driver asked him to come to his vehicle to collect a package. In the confrontation, Ikwechegh allegedly broke the driver’s phone, tore his clothes, and made threats, claiming that his political status would protect him from any consequences.

This alleged assault and intimidation have prompted widespread outrage. The police confirmed their investigation, and Ikwechegh is set to face charges today.
