Ogun Amotekun Dismisses Six Female Recruits Over Pregnancy
The Ogun State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, has dismissed six female recruits from its training programme after they were found to be pregnant before joining the corps.
The discovery was made during a routine pregnancy test carried out on 125 female intakes at the training camp.
State Corps Commander, retired Brigadier General Alade Adedigba, said the decision was a proactive step to safeguard the health of the women and their unborn children during the corps’ intense three-week training programme.
“Our training is rigorous and physically demanding. It could pose risks such as miscarriage or avoidable birth defects. This difficult but necessary decision is in line with our commitment to providing a safe environment for recruits and upholding public health and safety,” Adedigba explained.
While emphasising the corps’ commitment to professionalism and discipline, the Commander commended the women for their willingness to serve and protect their communities. He assured that they would be welcome to rejoin in the next recruitment cycle after childbirth.
“We appreciate their courage and dedication. As they prepare for motherhood, they can be assured of another opportunity to fulfill their aspirations with us when they return stronger,” he added.
The corps reiterated its resolve to ensure that all recruits undergo training without exposure to health risks or complications.
