Devotional: Patience in the Waiting

Scripture:
“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” — James 1:4 (KJV)

There are seasons in life when everything feels slow. Prayers seem unanswered. Doors stay shut. People move ahead of us while we feel stuck. And in those moments, we pray: “God, give me patience to endure trials and trust in Your timing.” It’s a vulnerable prayer—one that admits we’re tired of the waiting, but we’re still holding on.

Patience isn’t passive. It’s not about sitting still with folded hands. Biblical patience is active trust. It is the daily decision to believe that God knows the way, even when the path is unclear. Trials test that belief. They press on our weaknesses, challenge our confidence, and stir up questions. But they also refine us.

James reminds us that patience, when fully developed, produces something lasting. The more we yield to God’s timing, the stronger and more complete we become. Waiting may feel like a delay, but in God’s hands, it’s a design.

Think about Joseph—thrown into a pit, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison. Yet, through it all, God was aligning his story with His purpose. In the end, Joseph could say to his brothers, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” (Genesis 50:20)

What you’re going through now may not make sense. But be assured: God’s silence is not His absence. His timing may not match yours, but it is always perfect. Ask Him today for the patience to endure—one step, one breath, one prayer at a time.

Prayer:
Lord, give me patience—not the kind that simply waits, but the kind that trusts You fully while I wait. Help me to endure these trials without giving in to fear or frustration. Teach me to lean into Your promises when I can’t see progress. Strengthen my heart to believe that Your timing is not only right, but good. I surrender my impatience and receive Your peace today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
