Believe to See His Goodness
Scripture: “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” – Psalm 27:13 (KJV)
There are seasons in life when the weight of waiting threatens to wear us down. Prayers seem unanswered, doors remain closed, and hope feels distant. It is in those very moments that David’s words in Psalm 27:13 become a lifeline: “I would have fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord…”
Notice what David says—he believed before he saw. His strength didn’t come from visible evidence, but from faith anchored in God’s character. He knew that God’s goodness was not locked away in eternity but could be experienced “in the land of the living.” In other words, right here, in this present life.
Faith always precedes sight. Jesus echoed this truth when He told Martha, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” (John 11:40). Belief opens the door for us to witness God’s goodness at work.
Believing to see His goodness doesn’t mean ignoring reality or denying pain. It means choosing to trust God’s promises above what we see with our natural eyes. It’s the conviction that even in the dark, His light is coming; even in the valley, His hand is near; even in delay, His plan is unfolding.

Lord, strengthen my faith today. Help me to believe in Your goodness even when circumstances tell me otherwise. Remind me that Your promises never fail and that I will see Your goodness in the land of the living. I choose faith over fear, hope over despair, and trust over doubt. I will not faint. I believe to see the goodness of the Lord in my life, my family, and my future. His promises are yes and amen, and His goodness will be revealed in my story.
