BREAKING:Japan Sets New World Internet Speed Record at 1.02 Petabits per Second

Researchers in Japan have achieved a new world record for internet speed, reaching 1.02 petabits per second (Pbps)— equivalent to over 1 million gigabits per second.

At this speed, it’s possible to download the entire Netflix library in just one second

The breakthrough was accomplished by Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) using advanced multi-core optical fiber technology.

The system spans over 51.7 km and utilizes wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) across 370 channels to reach the unprecedented data rate.

This achievement marks a major leap forward for data transmission, with potential applications in AI, cloud infrastructure, and future 6G networks.

The previous record of 1 Pbps was also held by Japan. This new milestone reinforces the country’s position at the forefront of global communications research.

      To put it in perspective:

      1 Pbps = 1,000,000 Gbps

That’s 100,000 times faster than most home Wi-Fi connections

It could transfer 12,750 4K movies in one second!
