Adamu Ahmed Appointed as New Vice-Chancellor of ABU
The Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has appointed Adamu Ahmed as the institution’s new Vice-Chancellor.
A statement released on Wednesday by Auwalu Umar, ABU’s Director of Public Affairs, confirmed that Mr. Ahmed’s appointment was approved during the 209th special council meeting, chaired by Mahmud Yayale-Ahmed.

Mr. Ahmed, a distinguished scholar in urban and regional planning, has been part of ABU for over three decades, dedicating his career to teaching, mentoring, and administrative leadership. His academic journey began at ABU, where he obtained his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
Before his appointment, he served in several key roles, including Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Deputy Director of ABU Consultancy Services, and Director of the Directorate of University Advancement. In June 2024, President Bola Tinubu appointed him as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Education, Kano.
With a strong background in academia and administration, Mr. Ahmed is expected to bring visionary leadership to ABU.
