A new name for Microsoft Office signals the end of an era.
Are you serious? Soon, Microsoft Office won’t be known as Microsoft Office.
Microsoft is changing the name of its 32-year-old software program to Microsoft 365. The Verge noticed a change, which is visible on Microsoft’s official pages and is further described in the FAQ.
“We are developing an experience to help you get the most of Microsoft 365 because it has become into our flagship productivity suite over the last few years. Office.com, the Office mobile app, and the Office software for Windows will all transform into the Microsoft 365 app in the upcoming months with a new symbol, a fresh new style, and even more features “In the FAQ.
The rollout of these changes will begin for Office.com in November 2022 and for the Windows Office app and Office mobile app in January 2023.
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and other components of the Microsoft Office…er, Microsoft 365 software package will continue to go by their current names.
Microsoft rebranded some of its Office 365 plans as Microsoft 365 back in 2020, signaling the long-awaited shift. Microsoft initially launched the Microsoft 365 branding as a subscription plan for an enterprise version of Windows 10 and Office 365, but over time, the company made the decision to reposition Microsoft 365 as the umbrella brand for almost all other “Office” products.
At least not soon away, office won’t completely disappear. According to Microsoft, the Office 2021 and Office LTSC plans will continue to allow one-time purchases of specific Office products, while the Office 365 subscription plans won’t alter.
