The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that a total of 2,030,627 candidates have successfully registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). This marks a new record for the highest number of candidates ever registered for the exam.
The registration process for the 2025 UTME officially closed on March 8, 2025, with the figure representing a significant increase compared to the previous year, where 1.9 million candidates had registered.
Notably, the 2.03 million figure does not include candidates who have registered for centers abroad. In addition, a total of 200,115 candidates have expressed their interest in sitting for the optional mock UTME, which is scheduled for April 5, 2025. The mock exam is meant to offer candidates a chance to familiarize themselves with the examination process before the main UTME.
JAMB has also introduced several new measures aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the examination process. These steps include enhanced surveillance and security protocols to deter cheating and other forms of malpractice.
As part of these efforts, several candidates have already been apprehended for attempting to use fraudulent A-level results for admission purposes. The board has emphasized that all candidates must adhere to the rules and regulations of the exam, warning against the use of dishonest tactics during the examination period.
The 2025 UTME, expected to be one of the most competitive and well-monitored exams in the history of JAMB, will reflect the board’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and academic integrity in the Nigerian educational system.
