Florence Bamidele Makanjuola Scholarship 2025/2026. The Opekete Foundation has announced the 4th edition of the Florence Bamidele Makanjuola Scholarship for Women (FBMSYW).

Established in memory of Florence Bamidele Makanjuola (FBM), the scholarship is designed to support young Nigerian women pursuing education in Nursing or STEM-related teaching fields. It targets candidates who face significant financial barriers but demonstrate strong academic potential and commitment.

Beyond financial support, the programme includes mentorship, community engagement, and work placement opportunities.

Who the Scholarship Is For

The scholarship is open to:

  • Female Nigerian students in senior secondary schools
  • Candidates seeking university admission
  • Students already enrolled in public universities

Applicants must show clear interest in Nursing or STEM Teaching, alongside the discipline required for sustained academic performance.


Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be female and Nigerian
  • Meet the minimum academic requirements
  • Pass an aptitude or behavioural test
  • Have gained admission into, or be enrolled in, a public university
  • Attend or plan to attend a government-owned secondary school or university
  • Intend to study Nursing or STEM Teaching
  • Submit a motivational essay
  • Demonstrate financial need

Academic Requirements for Secondary School Applicants

Applicants at the secondary school level must have:

  • At least 5 As or Bs in Junior WAEC
  • Subjects must include:
    • English Language
    • Mathematics
    • Three other core subjects

Academic Requirements for University Applicants

University-level applicants must have:

  • At least 5 As or Bs in WAEC or NECO
  • Results must be obtained in one sitting

For Nursing:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Physics
  • Chemistry

For STEM Teaching:

  • English Language
  • Mathematics
  • Three STEM-related subjects

JAMB and GPA Requirements

Applicants seeking admission must meet the official cut-off set by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board for their chosen course and institution.

Current university students applying for funding must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.


Conditions for Retaining the Scholarship

The scholarship is performance-based.

  • Secondary school beneficiaries: Must maintain at least 65% average
  • University beneficiaries: Must maintain a CGPA of 3.5/5.0 each semester

Failure to meet these thresholds may result in withdrawal from the programme.


How to Apply

Applicants are required to complete the online FBMSYW application form.

Each candidate must also submit a 300-word essay explaining:

  • Why they deserve the scholarship
  • Their academic goals
  • Their financial situation

  • Local Government or State of Origin certificate

Shortlisted applicants will proceed to:
