FG: JAMB Remains the Sole Authorized Body for Tertiary Admissions in Nigeria. The Federal Ministry of Education has refuted false reports circulating in certain newspapers and online platforms claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tuuji Alausa (CON), the Ministry described the publication as false, baseless, and misleading, stressing that it did not originate from the Ministry and should be disregarded in its entirety.
JAMB’s Role Remains Legally Backed and Central
For the avoidance of doubt, the Ministry reaffirmed that JAMB remains the statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
All established admission processes through JAMB remain fully operational, and any contrary information suggesting otherwise is completely unfounded.
Ministry’s Position on the False Report
The Federal Ministry of Education categorically dissociates itself from the misleading publication and urges:
- Prospective students, parents, and tertiary institutions to rely only on verified updates from the official communication channels of the Ministry and JAMB.
- The public to ignore any unofficial statements that contradict the lawful admission procedures currently in place.
Dr. Alausa emphasized the Ministry’s unwavering partnership with JAMB and other relevant agencies to maintain transparency, merit, and fairness in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process.
Commitment to Transparency and Due Process
According to the Minister, the Ministry remains fully committed to preserving the integrity of the nation’s admission system and ensuring that all admissions are guided by merit, due process, and accountability.
He further warned media houses, bloggers, and online platforms to verify information from official sources before publishing, as unverified reports could mislead the public and disrupt the education sector.
Public Advisory
The Ministry reiterated that there has been no change whatsoever to JAMB’s central role in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework.
Any claim suggesting that JAMB has been removed from the admission process is entirely false and should be disregarded.
