FG approves the use of Hausa/Yoruba/Igbo and others in primary schools; A National Language Policy has been approved for use in all primary schools by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

After the council meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, Minister of Education Adamu Adamu informed State House reporters of this.
“The council passed a paper on national policy. Nigeria now has a National Language Policy, and the ministry will release further information later.
One of the highlights, according to Mr. Adamu, is that the government has decided that going forward, the first six years of primary school instruction will be taught in the mother tongue.
The minister claims that the decision is only in place in theory since putting it into practice will take a lot of work.
“Theoretically, this approach is effective right away, but we need time to create the materials, hire the teachers, and other things.
“The host community’s language will be used since the first six years of school should be in the student’s mother tongue where they are.
The goal of this strategy is to promote and develop the cultivation and usage of all Nigerian languages, and as of the most recent count, there are 625 different languages spoken in Nigeria.
He also stated that the council has approved a contract for consulting services between a private company and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in order to upgrade the website where the Board keeps track of applicants for admission to colleges and universities.
