Federal Polytechnic Oko Suspends Alumni Association Activities on Campus; The management of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, has suspended all activities and programmes organised by its Alumni Association and any of its factions within the institution’s campuses and premises. The suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice.
The decision follows a dispute between rival factions of the Alumni Association over leadership and recognition by the Polytechnic. According to management, the restriction is a precautionary measure intended to protect campus security, safeguard institutional property and ensure the uninterrupted conduct of academic and administrative activities.
Activities Affected by the Suspension
The suspension covers all events and programmes convened, sponsored or conducted on behalf of the Alumni Association or any of its factions within Federal Polytechnic, Oko’s premises.
During the suspension, the association and its factions are prohibited from using institutional facilities to organise or support such activities. The affected facilities include:
- Offices.
- Halls and auditoriums.
- Fields.
- Equipment.
- Other institutional facilities and property.
Management clarified that existing bookings, invitations or prior arrangements do not grant permission to hold events covered by the directive.
All organised gatherings on campus remain subject to the institution’s established access-control procedures, security requirements and event-approval processes.
Staff, students, departmental and faculty officers, security personnel and other relevant officials have been directed to comply with the suspension and enforce the directive within their respective responsibilities.
Why Did Federal Polytechnic Oko Suspend Alumni Activities?
Management’s intervention follows growing tension arising from competing claims to leadership of the Alumni Association and disagreements over which faction should receive institutional recognition.
The Polytechnic also identified several administrative and security concerns that contributed to the decision.
These include an alleged attempt by one faction to obtain sensitive institutional records without authorisation, as well as allegations and counter-allegations concerning an unfinished building.
Management further raised concerns about plans to bring alumni members and invited guests onto the campus on 25 September 2026 for a proposed 40th anniversary gathering without the institution’s approval.
These issues were cited as reasons for the administrative restriction. However, management has not presented them as findings that resolve the competing leadership claims or determine which faction is legitimate.
Federal Polytechnic Oko Maintains Neutrality in Alumni Leadership Dispute
The Polytechnic emphasised that the suspension is a precautionary administrative measure and should not be interpreted as a decision in favour of or against either faction.
Management stated that the directive does not determine which faction has legitimate leadership of the Alumni Association. It neither endorses one faction nor withdraws recognition from another.
The restriction is intended to maintain order, protect institutional resources and prevent activities that could disrupt normal academic and administrative operations while the dispute remains unresolved.
When Will the Suspension Be Lifted?
The suspension will remain in effect until the Polytechnic’s management reviews the circumstances and formally lifts the restriction through an official communication.
Any requests for reconsideration must be submitted through the appropriate administrative channels.
Management has also made clear that informal assurances, existing event arrangements or plans to hold a gathering do not override the directive. Activities covered by the suspension cannot resume until the restriction is formally lifted.
Members of the Alumni Association, its factions and other relevant stakeholders are expected to comply with the directive until further notice from the institution.
