The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), according to Adesola Olusade, permanent secretary, is prepared to put President Muhammadu Buhari’s new national language policy into effect.

On Tuesday in Abuja, Mr. Olusade announced an end-of-year and award ceremony hosted by the FCT Education Resource Centre (ERC).
The Education Resource Center will also serve as a prototype for the application of this policy; for us, this is a positive development, and we will put it into practice as effectively as we can, he said.
The mother language is required as the medium of teaching from primary one to primary six under the recently approved national policy.
He stated that the FCT would launch the initiative to ensure that the local people’s indigenous languages wouldn’t go extinct once the mechanisms were laid down.
“We want to hear our children speak our dialects, and we will do whatever it takes to support that effort,” Mr. Olusade continued.
The FCTA would be remodeling 100 schools in 100 days, the permanent secretary continued, as part of its efforts to support high-quality education and a positive learning environment.
The FCTA permanent secretary stated, “However, we might be hindered by insufficient resources, but the first phase of the program will undoubtedly take off before the end of the year.”
“The FCT is committed to improving the learning environment in the schools because we believe that a suitable setting will encourage learning.”
Neemat Abdulrahim, director of the ERC, also spoke, noting that the purpose of the award event was to recognize the hard work and dedication of the center’s personnel and partners.
