EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) 2025: Offering Opportunities for Nigerian Students to Study in the USA; The EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) is now open for applications from prospective undergraduate and graduate students in Nigeria.
For the 11th consecutive year, the United States Embassy in Nigeria is dedicated to identifying academically qualified and highly motivated students from low-income backgrounds, providing them with the financial resources and information needed to enhance their educational prospects.

OFP’s mission is to support talented, low-income students who possess the potential to receive financial aid from U.S. colleges and universities but lack the resources to cover the initial costs of admission. Through regular meetings and seminars, OFP guides students through the application process, assisting them in securing admission and scholarships to pursue higher education in the United States.
Additionally, OFP covers application expenses, including registration fees for standardized exams, and grants participants free membership to the U.S. EducationUSA Advising Center. The program expects a sincere commitment from students to fully engage and invest their time and effort to realize their aspirations of studying in the United States.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be from any state in Nigeria and be able to attend monthly meetings at either the Abuja or Lagos offices throughout the program.
- Participants will collaborate with EducationUSA Advisors from June 2024 to August 2025 to secure admission and financial aid for studies commencing in August 2025.
- Selection is highly competitive and based on:
- Strong academic performance
- Active involvement in extracurricular activities and leadership roles
- Community service participation
- Demonstrated financial need
- Undergraduate applicants without WAEC results must be in SS3, while those with results must have taken the May/June WAEC exams.
- Individuals already enrolled in university programs are ineligible to apply.

Application Procedure: Interested applicants must provide:
- Completed Application Form
- Academic Results:
- Undergraduate: Attach WAEC “O” Level results (from WAEC website) and any applicable Cambridge A’Level or IGSCE results.
- Graduate: Submit final year and degree results (if available), with preference given to STEM majors.
- Letters of recommendation:
- Undergraduate: Request a letter from a teacher or school principal highlighting character, talent, and skills.
- Graduate: Provide contact details of a lecturer, professor, or Head of Department for reference.
- Transcript:
- Undergraduate: Submit scanned transcripts from JS1 to SS3, including mock and first-term results if possible.
- Graduate: Send transcripts showing a GPA of 4.5 or above on a 5.0 scale.
- Essays: Write two essays on specified topics, each ranging from 250 to 300 words.
