Education Minister Vows to Address Key Challenges in Nigerian Education Sector; In a significant commitment to revitalize Nigeria’s education sector, Education Minister Tahir Mamman has pledged to tackle fundamental issues plaguing the nation’s educational system.

This assurance was conveyed in a statement issued by Yakubu Ochefu, the Secretary-General of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU), on Wednesday.
Minister Mamman assured a delegation, led by Lilian Salami, Chair of the Committee, that President Bola Tinubu, who serves as the visitor to all federal universities, is deeply committed to the transformation of the country through education.
Under Minister Mamman’s leadership, the Ministry of Education is determined to address structural challenges spanning primary to tertiary education. The ministry will collaborate with all stakeholders to effect comprehensive reform in the sector.

Minister Mamman emphasized the importance of aligning educational outcomes with national productivity, promoting research innovation, and nurturing entrepreneurship among graduates. This approach aims to foster self-reliance and reduce dependence on white-collar jobs.
The ministry’s commitment to enhancing university education was underscored during the meeting.
Lilian Salami expressed her gratitude to the minister for granting the delegation the opportunity to extend their official congratulations on his appointment as the first serving Vice-Chancellor to assume the role of Minister of Education.
During the meeting, several pressing challenges faced by universities were discussed, including funding, staff recruitment, universities’ autonomy, conflicts between university laws and other legislation, and persistent industrial disputes involving university-based unions.
To address these challenges and explore sustainable solutions, Ms. Salami presented the committee’s report on “Challenges, Opportunities, and Sustainable Models for Nigerian Federal Universities.”
The chair also formally invited the minister to participate in the diamond jubilee celebration of the Committee of Vice Chancellors, scheduled to take place from October 9 to 11 in Abuja.
The delegation that visited the minister included Vice-Chancellors from various universities, such as Lead City University, Nile University, Lagos State University (LASU), Bauchi State University, Niger Delta University, Bingham University, Federal University Gusau, and other distinguished members.
This commitment by the Education Minister signals a promising step towards addressing critical issues and advancing the quality of education in Nigeria.
