What You’ll Need Before You Apply
Make sure you have the following documents and qualifications ready before you start the application process:
- Degree or diploma certificates
- Official academic transcripts (must be sent directly from your institution to Covenant University)
- Two reference letters
- NYSC discharge or exemption certificate
- A 500-word statement of purpose outlining your proposed research interests or career goals

Entry Requirements: Master’s Degree
To be admitted into a Master’s programme, candidates must meet the following:
- Minimum of Second Class Lower Division in a relevant discipline.
- Applicants with Third Class or HND (Upper Credit) must have completed a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) with at least a 3.50 CGPA on a 5.0 scale.
- The standard duration is two academic sessions for full-time students.
Entry Requirements: PhD
For doctoral applicants:
- Must possess both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- A minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale at the Master’s level is required.
- Applicants with a CGPA between 3.50 and 3.99 may be considered for the M.Phil/PhD track, a hybrid route that transitions into the full PhD programme upon satisfactory performance.
- Minimum of three academic sessions for full-time doctoral study.
