Admission to Covenant University Applied Informatics & Communication Africa Centre of Excellence, 2023/2024

CApIC-ACE was established to address the urgent need for a critical mass of indigenous African scientists with expertise in bioinformatics, molecular biology, and information & communications engineering. The aim is to drive and sustain impactful research in areas such as malaria, prostate and breast cancer, and cloud & high-performance computing in relation to personalized medicine. Collaboration with academic, clinical, and industrial institutions in Nigeria, West Africa, Africa, Germany, France, the US, and the UK is central to our mission. Our collaborators have a proven track record of successful research, training, innovation, and technology transfer.

CApIC-ACE builds upon existing infrastructure, personnel, and externally-funded research projects at Covenant University. Notably, it leverages research projects for malaria and FEDGEN (NIH H3ABioNet, NIH WASLITBRe, and German Science Foundation) as well as cancer (CaPTC). The center aims to develop a Federated Genomic (FEDGEN) cloud infrastructure with in-memory computing and cloud AI capabilities. This infrastructure will be tailored to process and analyze indigenous genomic data, addressing African health issues such as health education, medication efficiency, and early disease diagnosis.
