ATBU Secures NUC Accreditation for 21 Academic Programmes. The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the accreditation of 21 academic courses for the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) as well as all courses offered at the seven Colleges of Education and Polytechnics affiliated with the University. Additionally, all nine courses offered at the World Bank-supported project of the University, the Sustainable, Procurement, Environmental and Social Standard Enhancement Projects – Center of Excellence (SPESSE-CE), have also received full accreditation.

New Faculty Establishments

The NUC has also approved the establishment of three additional faculties at ATBU:

  • Faculty of Computing
  • Faculty of Dentistry
  • Faculty of Allied Health Sciences

These new faculties will comprise a total of 56 different departments.

Accreditation Details

According to Professor Sani Usman Kunya, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ATBU, the University sought accreditation for 25 courses from the NUC. Out of these, 21 courses were fully accredited, three received interim accreditation, and one course (Urban and Regional Planning) was denied accreditation. Professor Kunya assured that efforts are underway to resolve the issues affecting the Urban and Regional Planning department.

Future Plans

The University has already put measures in place for the successful launch of the new faculties and departments. The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine has also successfully commenced operations this academic session.
