Al-Hikmah University Opens Applications for Bursar Position (2026). Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, has announced a vacancy for the position of Bursar. The opening follows the completion of the tenure of the current Bursar, which is scheduled to end on 15 March 2026.
The appointment process is being conducted in line with the Al-Hikmah University Law of 2001 (as amended). The University Council invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and professionally grounded finance experts to fill the position.
About Al-Hikmah University
Al-Hikmah University was granted approval by the Federal Government of Nigeria in January 2005. It is a private, faith-based institution founded on strong Islamic values.
The University offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with emphasis on academic excellence, moral discipline, and character development. It has an estimated student population of about 13,000, spread across several academic units.
Its academic offerings cover a wide range of disciplines, including Humanities and Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Education, Law, Agriculture, Nursing Sciences, Computing, Engineering and Technology. The University also operates a College of Health Sciences and a Postgraduate School.
Role and Responsibilities of the Bursar
The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the University and is responsible to the Governing Council and the Vice-Chancellor on all financial matters.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership in the generation and growth of internally generated revenue
- Planning, coordinating, and managing the University’s financial systems
- Ensuring effective control and accountability of funds and financial records
- Advising the Council and Management on all financial transactions and policies
- Performing any other duties assigned by the Council or the Vice-Chancellor
- Demonstrating strong competence in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:
- A good first degree in Accounting or a related discipline from a recognised institution
- Professional qualifications such as ICAN, ACA, ACCA, ACMA, or CPA
- A relevant Master’s degree
- Membership of a recognised professional accounting body
- A minimum of 12 years post-qualification experience
- At least eight years of experience in a university environment
- Not less than five years in a senior management position
- A minimum of three years’ experience as a Deputy Bursar
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Proven integrity, strong moral character, and leadership capability
- Must not be more than 48 years old at the point of resumption
Terms of Appointment
The Bursar shall be appointed for a single term of five years. Salary and other conditions of service shall be comparable to those obtainable in Nigerian universities and will be determined by the Governing Council.
