AKSU Gets NUC Approval for New Medical & Science Degree Programmes. Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce new degree programmes in Basic Medical, Health, and Physical Sciences, beginning from the 2025/2026 academic session. The announcement was issued through a press release signed by the University Registrar.
The NUC-approved programmes are:
- B.NSc Nursing Science
- B.PH Public Health
- B.EnvHSc Environmental Health Science
- B.MLS Medical Laboratory Science
- B.HT Health Technology
- B.SLT/B.Sc. Science Laboratory Technology
The University stated that these programmes were created to address rising needs across health and science sectors and to expand access to quality higher education. The courses also provide strong career prospects across hospitals, laboratories, public health agencies, research centres, and related industries.
Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) Options
Students admitted into Science Laboratory Technology may specialize in one of the following eight areas:
Physiology & Pharmacology Technology – Human body systems, drug effects, biomedical lab work.
Biology Technology – Life systems, plant and animal studies, applied life science.
Biochemistry Technology – Cellular chemical processes, medical and food science.
Chemistry Technology – Laboratory analysis in organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry.
Chemical & Petrochemical Technology – Industrial chemical processes, oil and refinery studies.
Geology & Mining Technology – Earth resources, minerals, mining science, environmental checks.
Microbiology & Biotechnology – Microorganisms, biotech methods in health and agriculture.
Physical & Electronics Technology – Applied physics, instrumentation, and electronics.
