Essay Topic:
Taxation and Development in Nigeria: Bridging the Gap Between Policy and Implementation
Participants are expected to examine the effectiveness of Nigeria’s tax laws in promoting national growth and assess whether these policies align with their practical implementation.
Eligibility:
- Open to law students from 100 to 500 levels in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
- Not open to law graduates or students currently enrolled in the Nigerian Law School.
Submission Guidelines:
PRACTICE PAST QUESTIONS HERE (JAMB, WAEC, NECO, POST-UTME)
- Essays must be individually authored; co-authored submissions are not permitted.
- Submissions must be original works. Plagiarism will result in disqualification.
- Each student is allowed only one submission.
- The essay should not exceed 1,500 words, excluding footnotes, and should not contain images or graphical content.
- Formatting requirements:
- Language: English
- File format: Microsoft Word
- Font: Times New Roman, size 12
- Spacing: Double-spaced
- Alignment: Justified
- Referencing style: OSCOLA
- The essay should include only the entrant’s full name; other personal details or school names should not be included to ensure impartiality.
- Submit the essay via email to admin@adeolaoyinlade.com with the subject line: “The 2025 Adeola Oyinlade & Co National Essay Competition for Law Students in All Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.”
- Winners will be announced on Adeola Oyinlade & Co’s LinkedIn page.
Submission Deadline:
All entries must be submitted by 12 midnight on February 21, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted.
Evaluation Criteria:
Essays will be assessed based on originality, clarity of argument, depth of analysis, relevance to the topic, grammar and spelling, and adherence to submission guidelines.
Prizes:
- First Place: ₦300,000, an internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co, and publication of the essay on Mondaq.
- Second Place: ₦200,000 and an internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co.
- Third Place: ₦100,000 and an internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co.
- 4th to 10th Place: ₦50,000 each and an internship at Adeola Oyinlade & Co.
- All qualifying participants will receive certificates of participation.

Merit-Based Selection:
The competition emphasizes merit, and selections will not involve voting, social media sharing, or popularity contests.
