ABU Notice to Graduating Students on New NERD Policy for NYSC Mobilization; The management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has issued a special bulletin informing all graduating students and prospective corps members about the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD) policy recently approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

According to the bulletin, the new policy requires all graduates to obtain NERD clearance before being processed for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization. This directive will take effect from the 2025 Batch “C” NYSC exercise. Consequently, only graduates with valid NERD clearance slips will be eligible for NYSC mobilization.

Graduating students are directed to visit the NERD portal through either of the following links to complete the preliminary upload of their thesis or project:

Required Documents for NERD Registration

Before starting the process, students are advised to have the following items ready:

  1. A functional email address
  2. A soft copy of their thesis or project
  3. Certificate or statement of result
  4. Passport photograph
  5. National Identification Number (NIN) or NIN slip

When attestation is requested, graduates must upload a copy of their certificate or statement of result for verification before receiving the upload link for their thesis or project.

How to Obtain the NERD Clearance Slip

NERD clearance slips can be obtained through the university’s official portal at www.abu.edu.ng or in Room 122, First Floor, Senate Building, ABU Zaria.

This new requirement is part of the Federal Government’s effort to establish a centralized academic database, promote research integrity, and enhance record management across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
