Northwest University Kano Postgraduate Admission 2026/2027. Northwest University, Kano, formerly known as Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano, has opened applications for admission into its postgraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Northwest University Postgraduate Admission Requirements

The specific admission requirements depend on the programme level. However, candidates must meet the general O’Level requirement of five credit passes, including English Language and Mathematics.

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Requirements

Candidates seeking admission into a Postgraduate Diploma programme must possess a qualification equivalent to a first degree with at least Third Class or higher.

Candidates with a Higher National Diploma (HND) at Lower Credit level or above, or its equivalent, may also qualify, provided the university’s matriculation requirements are satisfied.

Academic Master’s Degree Requirements

Applicants for an Academic Master’s Degree programme must meet one of the approved academic routes.

A candidate with a bachelor’s degree of at least Second Class Lower Division may qualify where the CGPA is not below 2.70 on a 5.00 scale, provided the degree was obtained from a recognised university in a relevant field.

A candidate with a Third Class degree may also be considered where the applicant has a good Postgraduate Diploma with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale at credit level from a recognised institution.

Professional Master’s Degree Requirements

Applicants for Professional Master’s programmes may qualify with a minimum Second Class Lower degree in the relevant field from a recognised institution.

A good Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant field with at least Merit classification may also qualify, provided the applicable PGD conditions have been met.

Candidates with at least a Second Class Upper Division degree in a non-related field may also qualify where they have obtained relevant professional qualifications after passing a qualifying examination.

Ph.D., M.Phil./Ph.D. and M.Phil. Requirements

A candidate seeking admission into a Ph.D. programme must possess an Academic Master’s Degree from a recognised university.

The Master’s degree should have a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale.

A Ph.D. applicant who meets the other admission conditions but does not have the required CGPA may be considered for M.Phil./Ph.D. admission where the Master’s CGPA is at least 3.00.

Northwest University Postgraduate Application Fee

The application form for the 2026/2027 postgraduate admission exercise costs ₦15,000.

The amount does not include bank charges, and the application fee is non-refundable.
