Overview of the MUTA Education Scholarship 2026
The MUTA Education Committee has officially opened applications for the 2026 MUTA Education Scholarship Programme. The scholarship is merit-based and targeted at outstanding full-time undergraduates pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), medicine, and allied medical fields.
Selection is geographically structured. One successful applicant will be chosen from each of the 14 Tiv-speaking Local Government Areas in Benue State, with one additional recipient each from Taraba State and Nasarawa State.
Number of Awards and Coverage
For the 2026/2027 academic session, the Committee plans to award up to 16 scholarships, distributed as follows:
- 14 recipients from the 14 Tiv-speaking LGAs in Benue State
- 1 recipient from Taraba State
- 1 recipient from Nasarawa State
What the Scholarship Covers
The value of each scholarship award will be determined and announced after the selection process is completed.
Successful applicants may apply the scholarship funds toward tuition, institutional fees, research expenses, and other school-related undergraduate costs only.
Eligibility Requirements (Read Carefully)
Applicants must meet all the conditions listed below to be considered.
Programme and Study Mode
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate programme in STEM, medicine, or an allied medical field
- Must be a full-time undergraduate student
Academic Requirement (CGPA)
Applicants must have either:
- A minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale, or
- A minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Applicants who do not meet the minimum CGPA requirement will not be considered, even if they have the highest CGPA in their Local Government Area. No exceptions were stated.

Supporting Documents Required
Applicants must upload the following documents. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
1. Personal Statement
A two-page, double-spaced essay explaining why the applicant deserves the scholarship. The essay must address:
- Academic background and achievements
- Community service and involvement
- Career goals
- Financial need
2. Certificate of Origin
An official document issued by the applicant’s State or Local Government confirming origin.
3. CGPA Certification Form
Applicants must download the official CGPA verification form and have it completed and signed by the Academic Officer or Head of Department of their institution.

Applications submitted without this completed form will not be considered.
Selection Criteria
Eligible applications will be assessed using the following weighting:
- Academic performance (CGPA): 50%
- Quality of personal statement: 40%
- Community service: 10%
Any application found to contain false or misleading information will be disqualified.
Application Deadline
All applications and supporting documents must be submitted on or before 11:59 PM, Wednesday, 15 April 2026 (US EST, GMT-5).
Late submissions will not be accepted.
After Submission
Successful applicants will be notified by email. Applicants who are not selected will not receive individual notifications.
The names of scholarship recipients will also be published on the official website and shared on MUTA Education’s social media platforms during the second or third week of June.

Award Presentation and Image Consent
The scholarship awards will be presented at a ceremony scheduled for July or August 2025. The exact date will be announced once confirmed.
Recipients must agree to the use of their images for promotional and publicity purposes.
