Eligibility for NELFUND Student Loan
All students — both returning and newly admitted — are eligible to apply for the NELFUND Student Loan.
However, newly admitted students can only begin their loan application after receiving their matriculation numbers from the university.

Applicants are advised to visit the portal, create an account, and follow the outlined steps to complete their loan request.
Components of the NELFUND Student Loan
The NELFUND Student Loan consists of two main components:
1. Upkeep Allowance
- This component provides a monthly allowance of ₦20,000, paid directly into the student’s personal account.
- Only students who select the Upkeep option during the loan application will receive this payment.
2. School Charges
- This component covers tuition and other compulsory school fees.
- The payment is made directly to the University’s account to settle each student’s school charges.
- If a student has already paid their fees before loan disbursement, the University will refund the amount once it receives the NELFUND payment.
Please note that the NELFUND loan processing and disbursement may take some time before funds are released.
Important Information on Course Registration and Part Payment
While awaiting loan disbursement, students are required to make a part payment equivalent to 50% of the approved school charges.
This payment enables them to begin the course registration process without delay.
Once the University receives full payment from NELFUND, any amount previously paid by the student will be refunded accordingly.
Final Note
The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) wishes all students — both new and returning — a smooth academic experience throughout the 2025/2026 academic session.
