FUNAAB Secures NUC Approval to Reintroduce Management Degree Programmes

FUNAAB Secures NUC Approval to Reintroduce Management Degree Programmes. The National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially granted approval for the re-introduction of Management Degree Programmes at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). This approval follows a successful Resource Assessment Visit conducted by the Commission to evaluate the proposed programmes.

According to a statement issued by Mr. Olasunkanmi Olajide, Acting Head of the Directorate of Public Relations, the newly approved degree programmes include:

  • B.Sc. Accounting
  • B.Sc. Banking and Finance
  • B.Sc. Business Administration
  • B.Sc. Economics

In addition, the NUC also approved a new M.Sc. Agroecology programme, expanding the university’s postgraduate offerings.

A Milestone in FUNAAB’s Academic Expansion

This development marks a major academic milestone for FUNAAB, as the management science programmes are making a comeback after being delisted in the 2017/2018 Academic Session. The earlier withdrawal was in response to a Federal Government directive that restricted the offering of management-related courses in agricultural universities.

In 2021, as part of its institutional restructuring and vision realignment, the University Senate renamed the College of Management Sciences (COLMAS) to the College of Entrepreneurial and Development Studies (COLENDS). This change reflected FUNAAB’s renewed focus on entrepreneurship, innovation, and development-oriented education.

Admissions Set to Begin for 2025/2026 Session

Following the NUC’s approval, FUNAAB is set to commence admissions into the newly reintroduced Management Degree Programmes under COLENDS for the 2025/2026 Academic Session. The university expressed readiness to provide high-quality academic and practical training in these disciplines to meet national and global development needs.

This approval further strengthens FUNAAB’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading institutions in agriculture, management, and development studies, combining academic excellence with an entrepreneurial focus.
