OAU Students’ Union Mandates Students to Notify Union Before Any Social Event; The Director of Socials and Culture of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Students’ Union has reminded the Great Ife community of the constitutional provisions guiding all social activities on campus.
According to Section 31(1) of the Union’s Constitution, “the Director of Socials and Culture shall be responsible for all social activities of the Union.” Furthermore, Section 14(1) clarifies that this responsibility extends to all matriculated students who have paid Union dues, honorary life members, and patrons.
OAU SUG Issues Directive on Social Events
The Union emphasized that no social event within the OAU campus shall hold without the prior knowledge and approval of the Director of Socials and Culture.
This directive aims to promote:
- Proper coordination of all social activities
- Accountability and transparency in student events
- Enhanced security and safety of all students
Faculties, Departments, and Student Organizations Affected
The notice further directed that faculties, departments, and all student organizations must formally communicate their planned social activities to the Office of the Director of Socials and Culture before hosting any event.
This move is in line with the Union’s constitution and is intended to ensure smooth coordination, accountability, and the safety of students during all campus social functions.
