AKSU Suspends SUG President Elijah Ekanem Over Alleged Misconduct; The management of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has suspended the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Mr. Elijah Ekanem, over allegations of gross misconduct.

According to a suspension letter dated Thursday, October 2, 2025, and issued by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Dominic Ekpo, the action was taken following reports that Ekanem forcefully collected a car key from the driver attached to his office as SUG President. He was also accused of providing false information against constituted authorities.

Details of the Suspension

The suspension took immediate effect, with Mr. Ekanem directed to appear before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.

Interim Leadership Arrangement

Meanwhile, the university has instructed the SUG Vice President to step in as Acting President of the union until the investigation is concluded and a final decision is reached.

Circulation of the Notice

Copies of the suspension letter were forwarded to the following offices for necessary action:

  • Acting Vice Chancellor
  • Registrar
  • Director of Academic Affairs
  • Chief Security Officer
  • Head of Department (HOD) of Public Administration

Conclusion

This disciplinary action underscores AKSU’s commitment to maintaining order, accountability, and responsible leadership within the institution. Further decisions will be made after the Disciplinary Committee completes its review.
