UNIZIK Vacancy: Position of Vice-Chancellor 2025; The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka announces that the position of Vice-Chancellor will become vacant on 19th November, 2025. In line with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1993, as amended in 2007, applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified and distinguished Professors with relevant experience in teaching, research, and university administration.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, originally established as the Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) in 1980, was taken over by the Federal Government of Nigeria through Decree No. 34 of July 1992. The University is committed to its vision of being a world-class institution engaged in the highest standards of excellence in teaching, research, and service.

The Job

The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University, ex-officio Chairman of Senate, and a member of the Governing Council. He or she is responsible for:

  • Policy implementation in finance, property/facilities, administration, and governance.
  • Academic programme administration and student discipline, in line with extant rules and regulations.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Hold a good first degree, Master’s, and Ph.D. (or equivalent) in their area of specialization.
  • Be a Professor for at least nine (9) years in a reputable university.
  • Demonstrate distinguished scholarship and academic leadership.
  • Possess ICT skills relevant to contemporary administration.
  • Be courageous, humane, and principled in decision-making.
  • Have proven integrity, administrative competence, and the ability to command global academic respect.
  • Be capable of fostering synergy between the University and stakeholders, free from ethnic, religious, or local biases.
  • Not be older than 65 years at the time of assumption of office, and able to serve the full five-year non-renewable term before the retirement age of 70.
  • Be physically and mentally fit.

Terms of Appointment

  • The appointment is for one term of five (5) years only.
  • Salary and other conditions are as applicable to Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities in Nigeria.

  4. Names and addresses of three referees, who should send confidential reports directly to the Registrar.
