FUHSO Secures NUC Approval for Four New Academic Programmes; In a remarkable demonstration of visionary leadership, steadfast dedication, and an unyielding pursuit of academic excellence, the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) has recorded another historic milestone in Nigerian higher education.
The National Universities Commission (NUC), in a landmark decision dated 8th September 2025, granted full approval for the commencement of four new academic programmes at FUHSO. This monumental approval follows the successful resource verification visit conducted by an NUC panel of experts on 30th August 2025, placing FUHSO at the forefront of health and life sciences education in Nigeria.
Newly Approved Programmes (Effective from the 2024/2025 Academic Session)
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D)
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS)
- Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc)
- Bachelor of Science in Public Health & Epidemiology (B.Sc.)
The official letter conveying the approval was delivered to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Aba Uba, by the NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu. The NUC commended FUHSO’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, modern facilities, and world-class teaching resources, all of which surpassed the Commission’s expectations.
Speaking with great delight, Prof. Uba described the milestone as “a divine blessing and a collective victory”. He attributed the achievement to God’s grace, the unwavering commitment of FUHSO’s management, the dedication of staff, and the resilience of the university community. He also pledged to introduce more innovative programmes in line with the university’s strategic vision and academic brief.
