UNIBEN Postgraduate Admission Form for 2025/2026 Academic Session; The University of Benin (UNIBEN) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into its Postgraduate programmes leading to the award of Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s Degree (M.Sc./M.A./M.Eng.), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) across its Schools, Faculties, Institutes, and Centres for the 2025/2026 academic session.

General Admission Requirements

O’Level Requirement
- Candidates must possess at least five (5) credit passes in WASC, NECO, GCE O’Level, or their equivalents.
- Alternatively, four (4) credits at O’Level plus OND (not pass), NCE, IJMB, A’Level passes, or other equivalents may be accepted.
Minimum Degree Requirements
- A Pass degree/diploma is not accepted for postgraduate admission.
- Candidates with a Third Class degree must first obtain a PGD before being considered for admission into a Master’s programme.
Master’s Degree Applicants
- Candidates who obtained a Master’s degree with a Weighted Average Score (WAS) of 55–59% will be considered for admission into the M.Phil. programme in the first instance.
PhD Applicants
- A minimum of 60% Weighted Average Score in a Master’s degree is required for admission into a PhD programme.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree from another university who did not take compulsory equivalent courses at UNIBEN shall be required, upon admission, to take and pass those courses with a minimum score of 60%.
NYSC Requirement
- Only applicants with an NYSC Discharge Certificate, Exemption Certificate, or Exclusion Certificate are eligible for clearance into the postgraduate programme.

Referee Reports

Candidates must print out referee forms provided on the application portal.
Completed forms should be returned directly to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies.
Applications without referee reports will not be processed.

Additional Notes for Applicants

Some programmes may require a written entrance examination. Applicants are advised to regularly check the UNIBEN website for updates.
Candidates should provide a personal email address and phone number during application for effective communication.

Method of Application

Application forms are to be purchased online with a valid VERVE or MasterCard ATM card at the cost of ₦22,000.00.
Forms must be filled correctly with all required information before submission.
After submission, applicants must print out the following documents from the UNIBEN portal:
- Completed application form
- Referee forms
Improperly filled forms will not be treated.
All application processes must be completed on or before 30th November, 2025.

Admission Procedure

Only candidates who are offered admission will be required to pay a non-refundable acceptance fee of ₦60,000.00 before they can be cleared for their programme.
