NECO BECE 2025 Registration Guide; The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially begun the sale of registration forms for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)—the crucial exam for JSS 3 pupils transitioning into Senior Secondary School (SS1).

🧾 What is the NECO BECE?

The BECE is conducted for students in Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS 3) and marks their official move into Senior Secondary School.

  • Each state ministry of education and the FCT organizes the exam for its schools.
  • NECO conducts the exam for Federal Unity Colleges and other approved institutions.
  • Private schools may participate only if cleared by their State Ministry of Education.
  • The BECE certificate now replaces the old First School Leaving Certificate.

The result format includes five performance grades:

  • A – Distinction
  • B – Upper Credit
  • C – Lower Credit
  • P – Pass
  • F – Fail

✅ Who Can Register?

Only the following candidates are eligible:

  • Pupils in JSS 3 only
  • School-based candidates (inside or outside Nigeria)
  • No private candidates allowed

Heads of schools and state education ministries are responsible for ensuring all registration rules are followed.


🧭 How to Register for BECE 2025

Registration uses both offline and online methods, and must follow these exact steps:

🔐 Access the School Portal

  • Schools already registered in NECO’s system must log in using their existing credentials.
  • For login issues, use the “Forget Password” or “Dispute” options on the portal.
  • New schools must claim their portal using their official school email and phone number.
    • Do not use personal or café emails.
  • Once verified, a default password will be sent to the school email.

🖥️ Install the Correct Offline App

  • Uninstall any previous version of the registration app.
  • Download the 2025 version from the official NECO BECE registration page
  • Fill in all student details in the app.
  • Upload clear passport photos of pupils in school uniform.
  • A comprehensive registration manual is also available on the NECO site.

⚠️ A pupil will only receive a registration number after payment and successful upload.

🏫 Viable vs. Unviable Centres

To qualify as a viable centre, a school must register at least 20 pupils.
Schools with fewer than 20 must pay the ₦15,625 unviable centre fee to conduct exams on their premises.


📚 NECO Syllabus Purchase

  • Each syllabus copy costs ₦2,000.
  • Schools must keep at least four copies for internal use.

⚠️ Important Instructions for Schools

  • All student data must be entered offline and uploaded online after payment.
  • Schools are responsible for any errors in entries.
  • Fix all mistakes before uploading. Do not duplicate student entries.
  • Passport photos can be changed only before the final deadline.
  • To avoid unviable centre charges, register at least 20 pupils upfront.
  • Do not use expired RRR codes for late payments.
  • Every pupil must have a printed photocard to enter the exam hall.
  • Late entries (5–6 May) will attract an extra ₦5,000 per pupil.
  • Keep proof of CAS 3 upload, printed from your school email.
