UOESD National Debating Championship 2025; The United Organization for Education and Sports Development (UOESD) is excited to announce the opening of the 12th National Debating Championship. In partnership with the Maurice Akueme Foundation, this prestigious event offers a stage for young minds across Nigeria to showcase their debating skills. The competition brings together primary, secondary, and tertiary schools, giving students a unique opportunity to engage in intellectual discourse and build their public speaking abilities.

Debating Topics for Each Level

This year, the competition is centered around thought-provoking topics for each educational level:

  • Primary Schools: “Schools should be seen as a better agent of socialisation than family.”
  • Secondary Schools: “The Nigerian Government has done more good than harm to its citizens.”
  • Tertiary Institutions: “Africa’s underdevelopment is a natural fact, not made by man.”

Each group will present their perspectives on these topics, offering a platform for students to voice their ideas with reason and critical thinking.

Competition Rules and Format

PRACTICE PAST QUESTIONS HERE (JAMB, WAEC, NECO, POST-UTME)

To ensure fairness and clarity, the competition has set guidelines that all participating schools must follow:

  1. Eligibility:
    • Open to schools in Nigeria only (primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions).
  2. Registration:
    • Free of charge: There is no registration fee for participating schools.
  3. Team Structure:
    • Primary and secondary schools must submit teams of three speakers.
    • Tertiary institutions can send multiple teams.
    • Teams can argue for or against the assigned topic.
  4. Time Allocation for Each Speaker:
    • Speaker 1: 5 minutes
    • Speaker 2: 3 minutes
    • Speaker 3: 2 minutes
  5. Submission Guidelines:
    • Each team must submit one video showcasing the full debate.
    • Include details such as the school name, speaker names, state, and contact information.
