Theme: Our Commonwealth Journey

Journeys help people learn, grow, and shape the world. The Commonwealth itself has a rich history, beginning in 1949 and now spanning 56 countries across five continents and one-third of the world’s oceans. With a population of 2.7 billion, its journey continues.
Participants are invited to write about journeys—whether through places, time, or people. You may reflect on the Commonwealth’s past, present, or future.
Categories & Topics
The competition has two age-based categories, each with a word limit and four topics to choose from.
Senior Category
For participants born between 23 May 2006 and 23 May 2011
Word Limit: 1,500 words
Choose one topic:
Imagine a Commonwealth where everyone has equal access to education.
Retell a popular folklore from your country or another Commonwealth nation.
Describe how a book took you on a journey and changed your perspective.
Share the life story of a plant that grows in the heart of your town or village.
Junior Category
For participants born on or after 23 May 2011
Word Limit: 750 words
Choose one topic:
Write about a time you discovered something new about a Commonwealth country.
Narrate a sea journey from one country to a small island nation—what do you see and who do you meet?
Imagine you find a secret door into your favorite book—what happens inside?
Picture a gathering of animals from different Commonwealth nations—what do they discuss?
