Reasons for the Dissolution
- Illegal Appointment: The Governing Council unilaterally appointed a Vice-Chancellor who did not meet the minimum eligibility criteria.
- Disruption and Tension: This action caused unrest and disharmony within the university community.
- Government Action: According to the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, immediate intervention was necessary to restore stability and maintain governance standards at the university.
The Council’s actions were deemed a serious threat to the effective governance and harmony of the institution.

The Federal Government has also removed Prof. Bernard Odoh, whose appointment as Vice-Chancellor by the dissolved Governing Council was declared illegal.
The appointment did not comply with the provisions of the university’s founding act, making it invalid.
