The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a strict warning to school owners and stakeholders, urging them to stop the practice of registering candidates for examinations through proxy, as this has led to identity theft and the presentation of fake results.
Measures to Combat Examination Malpractice

To address examination malpractice, especially impersonation, NECO has implemented several initiatives, including:
- Biometric Data Capturing Devices to verify the correct candidate sits for the exam.
- Customized Answer Booklets, unique to each candidate.
- Embossed Photographs and Dates of Birth on original certificates to prevent forgery.
Introduction of NECO e-Verify

NECO has also launched NECO e-Verify platform, an online platform designed to verify the authenticity of NECO results. Any certificate that cannot be verified through this platform is considered fake.
Call for Genuine Registrations
NECO urges state ministries of education and school owners to ensure only genuine candidate details are used during registration. Those caught in malpractice during the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal will have their results withheld. This highlights NECO’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of its examinations.
