The Mastercard Foundation/Arizona State University Innovation and Technology Scholarship is now open for applications for the 2025 academic year. This fully funded scholarship provides young African professionals the opportunity to pursue graduate studies in technology and innovation.

Scholarship Overview

The Mastercard Foundation and Arizona State University (ASU) have partnered to support 120 African students over five years (2025 to 2030). The program offers a two-year on-campus master’s degree focused on developing technology and innovation skills to meet the demands of the global digital economy.

Scholarship Value and Benefits

The scholarship covers all essential costs during the graduate program, including:

  • Visa Application Fees
  • English Language Test Costs
  • Program Application Fees
  • Round-trip Airfare to Phoenix, Arizona
  • Full Tuition Fees, Books, and Supplies
  • Medical Expenses
  • On-Campus Housing
  • Participation in Scholarship Programming

For the 2025/2026 academic year, thirty scholarships will be awarded. Recipients will receive financial support and participate in leadership curriculum and mentorship activities through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

Additional Opportunities

  • Scholars can work part-time in on-campus roles during the academic year.
  • Between the first and second year, students will complete a two-month internship in Africa, relevant to their field of study.
  • Participants are expected to return to their home countries after completing the program to contribute to their nation’s growth.

  • MS Human Systems Engineering – Intelligent Systems

  • MS Computer Science
  • MS Data Science Analytics & Engineering
  • MS Robotics and Autonomous Systems
  • MS Civil, Environmental & Sustainable Engineering
  • MS Clean Energy Systems
  • MS Modern Energy Production and Sustainable Use

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of an African country.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and a commitment to ethical leadership.
  • Be actively engaged in community service.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree by July 2025.
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 33 by the application deadline.
  • Meet the academic requirements for admission, including English proficiency.
  • Be able to reside in Phoenix, Arizona for the duration of the program.

Application Process

  1. Complete the scholarship application.
  2. If selected, you will receive assistance with the application process for admission to Arizona State University.
  3. Interviews will be conducted via phone or video call in November 2024, with final decisions announced by January 2025.
  4. Successful applicants will join the program in August 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona.
