Admission Requirements
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD):
- Minimum CGPA of 1.25 on a 5-point scale.
Master’s Programmes:
- Minimum CGPA of 2.5 on a 4-point scale or 3.0 on a 5-point scale.
Ph.D. Programmes:
- Minimum CGPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale or 3.5 on a 5-point scale.
- Candidates with Master’s degrees from recognized universities may transfer relevant credits towards their Ph.D. programmes, subject to acceptance by the Postgraduate School. For further details, you can explore the UNICAL Postgraduate Prospectus.
How to Apply for UNICAL Postgraduate Admission
Application Process:
- Pay a non-refundable fee of ₦35,000.00 at any bank using the E-Transact platform for the Postgraduate School application form.
- Obtain a printout with a unique PIN at the bank.
- Enter the unique PIN and your mobile number on the UNICAL Admissions Portal to access the application form.
- Complete the form by following the provided instructions.
- Print a copy of the completed form and concept note after submission.
- Bring the printed copy of the form to the screening venue.
Concept Note Submission:
- Ph.D. Programmes: Maximum of two pages.
- Master’s Programmes: Maximum of one page.
The concept note, summarizing the research proposal, must include:
- Statement of the problem
- Relevance of study to society
- Study aims
- Justification
- Methodology
- Theoretical background
Failure to submit the concept note with the application will result in disqualification from the oral interview.
Transcripts:
- Ensure that academic transcripts are sent from previous institutions via courier to:
- Academic Secretary, College of Postgraduate Studies, University of Calabar, P.M.B. 1115, Calabar, Cross River State.
- Transcripts must be received by the College of Postgraduate Studies by the screening day.
Admission Screening
The screening process includes:
- Part A: Computer-based test covering English, Logic, Mathematics, ICT, and General Knowledge.
- Part B: Oral interview based on subject area and concept note (for Ph.D. and Master’s candidates).
- No Oral Interview: For MBA, MPAS, and PGD programmes.
- Mock Examination: Required for computer fluency.
