About the Pretoria MasterCard Scholarships:
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) targets academically talented yet economically disadvantaged young people in Africa who will contribute to the continent’s transformation through their knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values.
Community service and internships are essential components of the Program. MCFSP offers a full scholarship to selected students who have been provisionally admitted to study towards a postgraduate degree at UP. Graduates are expected to return to their home countries upon completing their studies and give back to their communities.

Eligibility:
- Must be a citizen of a Sub-Saharan African country (excluding Southern African countries).
- Must come from an economically disadvantaged background and demonstrate financial need.
- Must demonstrate leadership potential and be involved in a giving back project (e.g., community service, school, church).
- Must maintain a high academic average.
- Must be a first-time applicant as a first-year student in the degree program.
Selection Criteria: Selection focuses on prior academic achievement and the applicant’s alignment with the Program’s ethos, which emphasizes leadership and community development for Africa, in addition to academic success. Successful applicants must commit to completing their qualifications in the minimum time, returning to their home countries, and giving back to their communities.

The Program covers the following:
- Full tuition fees
- Accommodation in a UP residence
- Meals
- Books and printed materials
- A modest monthly stipend
- Medical aid (Ingwe only)
- Travel costs (one return trip for the duration of the study period)
- Cost of one visa application for the duration of the study period
