About the Award:

Effective May 1, 2019 (spring 2019 admissions cycle), the IMAE is valued at $2,500 per term for a maximum of five full-time terms within the allowable program time limits (6 terms). The award is available to eligible international master’s students entering a research-based graduate program. Faculties will nominate eligible students based on their award allocation, selecting candidates based on academic excellence as demonstrated through their admission application.

Eligibility:

  • International students with a valid Canadian study permit, registered full-time, and assessed international tuition fees.
  • Normally awarded to students in research-based programs (thesis or major research paper).
  • Typically given to students entering their first term (term 1.0).
  • Students must demonstrate academic excellence through Faculty-established criteria.
  • Students must meet academic progress requirements and not have outstanding probationary admission requirements.
  • This award may be combined with other internal or external scholarships (e.g., UW Graduate Scholarship, OGS). Note: Scholarships differ from sponsorships.
  • Students should not concurrently receive foreign government or agency sponsorship or be self-funded beyond the Faculty’s minimum support levels.
  • Students previously awarded an IMSA for a completed master’s degree can be nominated for an IMAE.

  • Faculties will nominate eligible students based on their award allocation.
  • Selection is based on academic excellence as demonstrated through the admission application.
