JAMB clears the rumours over reading texts for 2024 UTME; The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recently addressed concerns raised about the inclusion of questions from the text “Sweet Sixteen” and various prescribed texts in Arabic, Hausa, Igbo, and Literature-in-English during the 2024 Mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This has led to speculation among candidates and the general public regarding whether these texts would replace “The Life Changer” and other designated reading materials for the 2024 UTME.

JAMB has made it clear that this occurrence was intentional, aimed at enhancing the board’s approach to counter emerging challenges, and not an indication of changing the prescribed reading texts for the 2024 UTME.
The Board confirms that “The Life Changer” by Khadija Abubakar Jalli remains the chosen text for the Use of English paper, compulsory for all candidates. In addition to “The Life Changer,” the following are the prescribed texts across various subjects:

Candidates are urged to prepare for the Use of English paper and their respective subjects by studying “The Life Changer” and the texts listed above as part of the syllabus. This advice comes ahead of the main UTME, scheduled to begin on Friday, 19th April, 2024, for which 1,985,642 candidates have registered.
The mock examination aims to familiarize candidates with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) environment and allows JAMB to assess its readiness for the main exam. It’s crucial to note that “The Life Changer” is the approved reading text for the 2024 UTME Use of English, mandatory for all candidates regardless of their intended fields of study. JAMB has facilitated access to the reading text through a QR code placed in each candidate’s profile and email, reducing the financial burden associated with high printing costs.
Candidates are encouraged to study the books listed in preparation for the 2024 UTME, ensuring a thorough understanding and readiness for their examinations.
