Futa Professor Emerges RUN VC; Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, an esteemed scholar and distinguished Professor of Forestry at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has been appointed as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University (RUN) by the Board of Trustees led by Pastor Olukayode Pitan.

This appointment, effective for a single term of five years, follows a meticulous recruitment process conducted by a professional recruiting firm and distinguished academics, aligning with global best practices for strategic positions in higher education institutions.
In a statement by Adetunji Adeleye, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs at RUN, Pastor Olukayode Pitan expressed that Professor Akindele’s appointment is anticipated to usher in an era of innovation and academic excellence. Recognizing Akindele’s significant contributions to higher education and commitment to fostering learning and research, Pastor Pitan emphasized the enduring impact the new Vice-Chancellor is poised to make on the university and the broader academic community.
Professor Akindele earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resources Management from the University of Ibadan in 1985, followed by postgraduate studies at the same institution where he obtained a Master of Science degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in Forest Biometrics in 1987 and 1990, respectively.
Commencing his academic career as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Ibadan in 1987, Professor Akindele later joined FUTA as an Assistant Lecturer in 1988, eventually rising to the position of professor in 2005. His academic journey includes roles as a Visiting Professor at renowned institutions in Canada, showcasing a dedication to research and educational development.
Professor Akindele’s administrative roles at FUTA include serving as Head of Department, Dean, Chairman of Committee of Deans, Member of University Governing Council, Director of a University Centre, and Chairman of various University Committees. He has received numerous awards in recognition of his service and contributions to the university system and society at large.
With extensive consulting experience on projects funded by international organizations and the Nigerian government, Professor Akindele has established a broad network of contacts, contributing to the development of the university.
As the substantive Vice Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Professor Akindele envisions fostering a dynamic learning environment and community engagement, emphasizing academic excellence, student success, research funding, international collaborations, and community outreach. Ordained as a full Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in 2009, he continues to serve in various church departments alongside his spouse, Pastor (Mrs.) Hannah Oluwatoyin Akindele, and their children.
