The Osun State Police Command has detained two people in connection with the death of Okoli Ahize Chizoputam, a 500-level Engineering student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
Remember that the 28-year-old student was tortured to death by fellow students over charges of phone theft at one of the school’s dorms.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, April 12, the police command spokesman, Mrs. Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the arrest and expressed grief over the situation, saying that a discreet investigation into the case is underway and that further arrests will be made in the coming days.
Following the killing of the student, students from the university held a peaceful protest outside the school grounds to condemn the mob activity. They barricaded the main highways leading to campus and sang somber songs in memory of Okoli.
