      What is Depression?

Depression is a mental health disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest in activities. Unlike regular sadness, which is temporary, depression lasts for weeks or even months and can affect daily functioning.

      Prevalence

Depression is one of the most common mental health conditions worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 264 million people globally suffer from depression, affecting individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

Depression vs. Sadness or Mood Swings

Sadness and mood swings are natural emotional responses to life events and usually fade over time. Depression, however, is more severe and long-lasting. While sadness comes and goes, depression feels like a constant emotional burden that can affect thoughts, behavior, and physical well-being.

In short, depression is a serious condition that requires attention and support, unlike short-term sadness or mood changes.
