During today’s jog, I found myself wondering how people cope with “their version of depression.”
Some might spiral into drinking — what better way to destroy your organs than with mixtures of alcohol that give you party vibes until you’re vomiting at 3 am and feeling nauseous all day?
Raise your hand if you’ve been there. And if you haven’t, trust me, there’s nothing fun about it.
Others pick more seemingly healthy ways to forget their problems like stress eating. This might be a favourite for many because, honestly, who doesn’t love the taste of well-seasoned goat meat stuffed between your cheeks while washing it down with whatever fattening drink you can find? Sure, you’re upset that your life feels like it’s going down the drain, but why not add being depressed about being out of shape to the list?
Porn? Why Not!
Did you know there’s a higher chance you’ll masturbate more when you’re depressed than when you were a teenager and first discovered the “magic” your hands could create?
But be warned, this comes with its own set of brain-damaging and sex-damaging consequences.
You might think you’re “relieving” your problems away, but the moment you’re done, your sex drive drops a notch, and your issues are right there waiting for you after you clean up.
Then some bring out their inner wild child and call it “living their best lives.”
Let’s be real, Christianah, you can’t sleep your way out of depression. You’re more likely to catch an STD or end up with an unplanned pregnancy than to find any peace.
Plus, you might end up with a list of body counts that your future partner would have a hard time accepting.
And don’t even get me started on those who turn to drugs. If you want to throw your life away, just toss that rubbish out. The economy is tough enough; it’ll do the job for you eventually.
Let’s not forget the folks who think they’re depressed when they’re not. They love how fancy the word sounds and how easily people believe them. They get high on the attention their followers give them. Get a hobby, or better yet, see a therapist.
Before you start throwing the word “depression” around, have you actually seen a professional?
And by professionals, I don’t mean Google or ChatGPT. Hit the gym, learn a new language, and please, don’t fall in love just to fill the void (see the point I made about sexual partners for a reminder).
