Exciting news for those of us keeping an eye on the Pixel 9 series—recent images and specs for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold have surfaced, confirming several design changes from last year’s Pixel Fold. These details come from Taiwan’s NCC, which is similar to the FCC in the U.S., and they’ve provided some pretty interesting insights.
First off, NCC’s filings included images of all four upcoming Google smartphones: the Pixel 9 (GUR25), Pixel 9 Pro (GEC77), Pixel 9 Pro XL (GZC4K), and, of course, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold (GGH2X). These images give us a much clearer look at some critical aspects of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
One of the big changes is in the hinge and crease. From the images, it looks like Google has reduced the depth of the crease, though it might just be a trick of the lighting. We’ll have to wait for hands-on reviews to see how it actually feels. The hinge also seems to have been improved, allowing the Fold to open 180 degrees and lie flat—well, almost flat. The camera island on the back prevents it from being completely level, but it’s definitely an upgrade from the first Fold.
Speaking of the camera, Google has made a noticeable tweak to the internal display’s selfie camera. It’s now positioned under the top right corner of the display, rather than in the middle of the right side like last year. This should make for a more streamlined look and hopefully a better user experience.
Another interesting point is that unlike last year, this Pixel Fold will be integrated into the main Pixel 9 lineup. It seems like Google is feeling more confident about the Fold’s future. However, it looks like the price might stay the same as last year’s Fold—at least according to some European retailer listings. While this might vary by region, it’s usually a good indicator of what to expect.
